Oh I think it depends on a lot of things, but the main factor is what the venue has to give to the artists, and usually, a lot of support acts= most expensive ticks. To give you an example, I went to see the same artist twice in the same kind of venues, the first time, they were 2 support acts, the second time there was none. I paid 10 euro less the second time. And that was within 2 weeks.

But of course, like I said, a lot of things can influence the prize, like the prestige of the venue (or even city) etc. I'm not sure the number of attendants has a great impact tho, or festivals would be far cheaper lol.

Generally speaking, the price of a concert ticket depends on how much the artist gets and what capacity the venue has. Promoters want to have a sell-out and they calculate the prize of the tickets to get the best deal possible. So how many people will turn up in Brixton if a Mika ticket costs 40 pounds, how many will come if it's just 20? The bigger the act, the more expensive the ticket. There is artist A that plays for 50 pound per evening, there is artist B that gets 600 pounds and then artist C receives a fee of 15,000 pounds and then D already gets 25,000 pounds but is still trying to get an even higher fee for a 100min show. So the more the artist wants, the higher the ticket prices are. The artist is the most expensive part of all that :smth:.

Some venues in the UK (for instance) might be quite similar but still there are often huge differences between the prices the artist has to pay for rent/security/PA & lights/technicians/stage crew/barricades/box office fee/PRS/catering/whatever which then also affects the ticket prize :smth:. There are some venues in London that have the same capacity but still much different prizes for rent and so on. For example, Brixton Academy is freaking expensive but still - you get almost 5,000 people into it and, although it's IMO extraordinarily filthy, it has a good reputation (and fantastic security guys if I may add that here :wub2:) and big acts play there.

Prizes for tickets do vary a lot of course - usually (not always) London gigs are more expensive (as artists also get more money for London shows) and shows in other European countries (where the artist is less known) are of course far less expensive. I paid 35€ for Mika in Düsseldorf and although I'm really willing to pay that, it is a LOT of money for this man in this country . I have no idea what Mika got for Düsseldorf but I'm sure it was far less than what he gets in the UK. Hm, I lost my train of thought. Well anyway, look at The View - they played in the Astoria in London (roughly 2,000 capacity) for about 20 pounds per ticket but here in Germany they are still just a support band (for Mando Diao) and then play (while touring with Mando) an own headline show in a town for 17,50€ per ticket. If you aren't lucky enough to be in a band that is popular all over the place (like the Stones or Robbie or The Kooks), you will finally end up playing in front of 800 people in Cologne for a fantastically low fee while you are filling arenas with more than 10,000 people in the UK (which is probably the reason why some guys from the Kaiser Chiefs looked really pissed while they were on stage in Cologne :naughty:).

Support acts are usually not responsible for the ticket prize - but no idea if that is the case if you have really big supports that are no real supports but "Special Guests". But usually you wouldnt have two big bands as supports who get so much money each that it would have effects on the ticket prizes. Supports simply get far far far less money than the headliner and I can't remember seeing a support that got so much that it could affect (is it actually "effect" or "affect"?) the prize of a ticket.

And festivals could actually be far less expensive if artists got less money :smth: but festivals are the artists's way to actually MAKE money in most cases. Acts get A LOT (!!!) of money for festival performances; much much more than they would ever get for a simple headline show.

Uhm, yes. No idea what I want to say with that post.

Thanks for all the info Petra.

I was thinking this about the $50 Mika tickets in Toronto because the venue he played was really too small. He went from 11,000 ppl in Montreal to 1,400 people in Toronto the next night. They were able to charge 3x the amount of his previous gig because demand was high enough.

Katy Perry is playing the same venue next month and tickets are only $26 and they sold out instantly but Mika didn't sell out until the week of the gig.

It's affect. :thumb_yello:

Wow Petra, thanks for that explanation. You are full of knowledge :naughty:

Not really. I have no idea what I'm talking about because I have an incredibly bad memory :crybaby:. But I know it's at least not the support acts :naughty:.

Since this thread's been bumped up again, I just wanted to mention

that we had a short talk with someone from Mika's management team

yesterday, and they told us that NOTHING has been set in stone as far as

Mika's upcoming tour. They didn't come right out and say that he

wouldn't be playing in Dublin on the 28th May but they didn't

confirm that he WOULD be either -- they emphasized that no

concrete plans have been made as yet (their words), and that you should all

take that into consideration. We hope to have REAL news to report

soon, but so far... there's nothing definite to tell you...

no album date, no tour dates.

Thankyou Deb for telling, that straights things up. I have to say that I'd rather for the gig to happen, even though I know I woldn't be going. It wold just be nice to start so soon, but as I heard this I doubted about it, he wold be promoting the album already if he was planning to do some gigs soon.
