  2. Here is a brief review I found in today's Manchester Evening News Online (link to follow, includes good pictures:thumb_yello: ). Hope it hasn't already been posted, and that this is the appropriate thread:shocked: Mika surprise wows crowds 28/ 6/2007 POP sensation Mika surprised music lovers with a surprise gig in Manchester last night. The Lebanese singer – who topped the charts earlier this year with single Grace Kelly - played a free open air gig at the Great Northern Warehouse centre. Around 300 people attended the secret gig after receiving a text invite from mobile phone firm Vodaphone. The high-pitched singer and his band performed a short set on a specially erected stage, which included his new single Big Girls. Audience members were asked to wear fancy dress for the gig. The event coincided with the launch of the Manchester International Festival, which will see dozens of new shows and performances staged over the next 18-days. One of the highlights of the festival will be the premiere of Monkey: Journey To The West, composed by Damon Albarn The link, with good pictures! : http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/entertainment/music/s/1010/1010125_mika_surprise_wows_crowds.html
  3. Great idea, this place needs to be officially recognised, count me in:biggrin2:
  4. Yes Carrinevie I'm sorry for you especially! And for Sparkly1. And others, I'm sure. Knowing the venue I think you probably could see from outside! Had a text from Akim just now - she reckons Sara and BexxY had 'gone looking for Mika' Let's hope they found him:roftl:
  5. LOL (MEANT IRONICALLY) I've needed a good slapping over Mika since January This is why there is no justice in the world: I've just texted my good friend - single and child-free, no ties, works in Manchester, coming out of work right now. Told her about the gig, told her to GO, in my excitement. BUT SHE HATES MIKA and wouldn't go near him with a bargepole. And yet here WE are!
  6. It's at the Great Northern Square, an outdoor mini-amphitheatre-type place, next to the GMEX conference centre. You can see it REALLY clearly on Google Earth! Go and look. i'm off to do exactly that now!
  7. You know what , I wish I was more pushy and had moved heaven and earth to get a babysitter. In fact if I'd known it was a free-for-all I might even have taken the kids with me. Huh. not fair
  8. My husband will be walking very close to where the gig is at about 6.15 ... should I text him to go and watch it? LOL He doesn't mind Mika but...well.
  9. You and me both. I should have gone. Kids could've looked after themselves for a couple of hours:roftl: (Actually that's not a joking matter is it.) But I feel like this:
  10. OMG I feel very very sorry for those people who wanted to go but thought they needed tickets...and now can't get there in time...
  11. Did she say where?? Is it Great Northern Square??
  12. Call me odd (you may, as I am:bleh: ) but I quite fancy Gordon Brown.
  13. Mika would be a good PM. He's pretty skilled at question-dodging:bleh: Not even Paxo could get him on 'that' issue!
  14. Well I gotta go...hope everyone who is going has a FAB time, I'll be thinking of you! Someone remind Akim she has my mobile number in case she wants to put Mika on to speak to me HAVE FUN ALL
  15. The "Help - Manchester Gig...." one (soz too lazy to put a link up:naughty: ). It's mad. I feel stressed for everyone:boxed: Vodafone have excelled themselves in the confusion department! I just hope Mika gets a decent turnout..
  16. Hey it's good MFCers will have someone "local" there after all Ruth! (Not "local" in Royston Vasey sense:naughty: )
  17. Hi Bexx. You think THIS thread is bad - have you seen the one in the Gig & Tours section? People are freaking out!!!
  18. LOL I thought that too! Maybe it's a bit like the bore/whore thing and he reserves the right to interchange tyke and tart!?
  19. Hey I've just thought: my husband walks through the centre of Manchester at around 6pm every evening on his way home... I will tell him to look out for a load of weirdos in fancy dress with flashing hearts on and give you all a big kiss from me:thumb_yello: :roftl:
  20. WHICH sad person said this Cathi??? Please, I didn't see all the footage. I will hunt them down...
