Blue
This thread inspired me to dig up my Popclassics - the 70's and 80's album again. I am listening to Roxy Music now (Avalon).

Suzy
Sorry...never heard of them But I did just remember other songs..."Bizarre Love Triangle" by New Order, "Electric Avenue" by Eddie Grant, and "Our House" by Madness. And I thought Belinda Carlisle was soooo pretty especially in the "Mad About You" video. I also remember making friendship beads and collecting stickers in photo albums. Blue
For the 80s lovers: From 6-11 August Radio Veronica is broadcasting the Top 1000 Allertijden edition 2006 (the one from last year indeed - a 'summer special'). Many songs from the eighties! http://www.radioveronica.nl/
Gatagordinha
Who remembers when Acid House hit the UK?? 1988 if I remember... Gatagordinha
Smileys... whatever happened to them I just don't know:biggrin2: I had smiley badges, earrings, pendants, tattoos (those kids' ones from chewing gum packs), I was such a sad fashion victim! I did ONCE go to the Hacienda in Manchester at the height of acieed, it was so pretentious! I never felt 'cool' enough to be in there even though I was a student in Manchester at the time and even with all my smiley accessories:naughty:

Moonlightchild
He is still gorgeous, isn't he? I ran into a video of my favourite Dutch female 80s pop group. May I present to you - ! Yeh the Dolly Dots,I think I still have the record (LP) somewhere. I Loved and stil love the '80s music. pop and popular rock, new wave alsow I love Madonna then and now. Then the '90s came along. What a bummer I hated the most music on the radio then. Not clouseau loved them(group from belgium, you know them bleu) and a few others. But in general somthing went wrong with music that day's. Stars where created by the music industrie and i really didn't like that. So I went for uderground house and techno. Mika reminds me off 70s, 80s and even a litlle bit off the 60 music but all in a verry fresh and new way. Even the way he dresses reminds me off the 80' the colerfull breclets and the stuf around his neck. I had that kind off stuff too back then. dcdeb
BUMP. Since Blue just got tickets to see The Cure, some of us Oldlings have been reminiscing about the '80s again... and since I missed this thread somehow the first time Suzy started it... thought we ought to resurrect it for a bit... I was a big-time '80s girl... everyone from the Cure to Depeche Mode (still a fave) to Culture Club to Go West to King to... well, just about all "New Wave" as we called it in the states... Back in the day I went to shows by the B-52s, Culture Club, Madonna, The Cars, and how could I forget HUMAN LEAGUE! Yes, the '80s were definitely my decade! dcdeb

newsong
Not sure where this thread came from, or why I haven't seen it til now!!! But count me IN LIKE FLYNN!! Total 80's chica here. I had the big blond hair, the shoulder padded shirt worn with the stirrup pants, the whole bit! My fave clothes were those ones that changed colors with your body heat!! Do you guys remember them?? You're shirt would be purple, and then you're smartass friends would have to put their hands all over it and make it pink! So cool! Whatever was in those clothes is probably going to give us cancer one day. LOL!

Ha - I just read that Blue is going to see 'The Cure' and I regressed back to my 80s music this morning too! :naughty: Thanks for bumping Deb! Yup, I'm going to see The Cure! Well I have to be patient though: the concert is scheduled for 18 March 2008. I am such an 80s girl... Born in 1974 I started listening to pop music when I was 10/11 years old - '84/'85 (Eurythmics, Wham!, Falco, A-ha, Madonna...). I am convinced the best music was made in the 70s and 80s. And nearly all the contemporary music I like reminds me of those days. I guess that is the main reason why I like Mikas music.

But oh, did I love Wham! and George Michael... and Eurythmics -- Annie Lennox was my hero! *sigh* Definitely get nostalgic for those days... and I agree, a lot of the new music I like now reminds me of the music then. In fact, there's a band called Blacq Audio (spun off from AFI, which is one of my son's faves) -- the first time I heard them I thought for sure it was Depeche Mode reincarnated. My son, of course, was scandalized! dcdeb
