It was my first taste of Broadway, for my 13th birthday. Ahh, memories.

I think it's from Anton in Show Business.

i actually didn't pick it, cos i don't like doing them, so i told Hutch (my drama teacher) to pick me one. and wha la!

Haha, I don't think I would like doing them either...but I've never been involved in theater...I'm just a theater supporter :)

Now go study! lol

My roommate and I were just talking about his name. :roftl: :roftl: :roftl:

I'm trying to look past his last name and just enjoy the music. ROFLLLLL

bahaha, way to be mature about it, Hollis. :thumb_yello:

it's only because of Hutch that i can't take him seriously.

he's only a year older than my 25 year old brother, and so i can't take him seriously as a teacher.

for my Seussical tryout i did How I Learned to Drive. :thumb_yello:

i'm looking for a monologue right now, and i think i like this one the best:

Fear of the Millennium

by Carolyn West

Set Up: Rebecca (Late 20's. early 30s) is taking stock of her life right before midnight on December 31st, 1999.

REBECCA

My life is safe. I’m not afraid. I know there won’t be any turmoil. Life will just go on the way it is. I’ll get up in the morning, rush to work, where I’ll get nothing done. After ten hours of back biting and butt kissing I’ll come home, get on the computer, and watch TV.

Gosh, I think turmoil might be better. Bring on the apocalypse. At least I’d have something to write in my journal. (She pretends to write)

“October 27. Dear Diary. Russia invaded the country today. The President, the congress and all their families lie slaughtered. The streets are red with blood. Plus the sun finally broke through the clouds. Thank goodness. This dreary, gray weather was beginning to get me down.”

(she stops writing)

Life is just so tedious. That’s the problem. That’s what people should be afraid of. Not that life the way we know it might end, but that it might continue. We’ll all find out the big secret. There’s nothing special about the year 2000. Everything is arbitrary. There’s no one up there watching over us. There’s no one up there waiting to give our lives meaning.

Of course, I don’t need meaning in my life. I am very fulfilled. I have a good job, I keep up with my bills. I’m about as fulfilled as any single woman ten years away from early menopause can be.

(looks at her watch)

In 18 minutes the new year will come. At 11:59 everyone will breathe in in anticipation. At 12:01 we’ll all give a disappointed sigh. The sound of collective boredom will be deafening.

Tomorrow morning we’ll resume our lives and lie when anyone asks us about the fun we had tonight.

It will be like every other New Years in recorded history.

so, what do my fellow theatre lovers think?

good?

bad?

meh?

it seems as though everyone knows of or has done that monologue :bleh:

i thought so too.

it's kind of cynical, and i myself being cynical can play that part rather well.

the monologue my teacher picked for me was laaaaaaame.
