Guardando indietro, penso che 45 sterline per il jingle della Orbit non siano stati un affare per me.” Un virtuoso del piano autodidatta, un vocalist atletico ed intrattenitore nato, Mika ha la musica che nelle vene e già in tenera età era pronto a mostrare il suo talento. Mika non è stato sedotto dallo scintillio di programmi tv come Top Of The Pops o dall’ascoltare i successi del momento alla radio mentre se ne stava appollaiato sul suo letto, quando ha ricevuto la sua “chiamata dalla musica”. Piuttosto è stato catapultato sul palcoscenico da un’opera di Richard Strauss all’età di 11 anni. David Hockney l’ha notato durante le prove e Mika conserva ancora la locandina dello spettacolo autografato da Hockey su un muro del suo soggiorno. Dopo una quasi totale esclusione sociale a scuola - “Mi piacerebbe dire d’aver scelto io l’isolamento, ma mi è stato imposto” – questo stile di vita gli è subito piaciuto. “Era un mondo magico nel quale vivere.
