I don't get their sense of humour sometimes... it's a lot different to Aussie and English humour...

Its just awful ... most of it is getting copied from the UK now anyways

Obviously Deb has a very good sense of humour then...

They like to Americanise other countries shows... The Office anyone? Kath and Kim?

Kath and Kim won't be any good without Gina and Jane.. :sneaky2:

Oh, the US version of The Office? At first, I was appalled, but it's

grown on me -- it's just very different than the awesome Ricky

Gervais' original!

What's Kath and Kim? Is the US redoing that?

American comedy is pants ... no offense to our USA friends

Oh, for the most part you are SO right. I think growing up with an

English mother definitely warped me (in more ways than one :naughty: )

But I would have never appreciated some of these UK shows without

the background I have, I think... so many of my friends don't get

the shows I love. In fact, they mostly complain that they can't

understand them -- as if an English (or Scottish or Welsh or Aussie, even)

accent is so hard to understand!

Yep. You won't find me starting a "US Comedy Thread" that's for sure...

many of the classic US comedies, which were really well-written, are

long long gone... :(

Oh, here's an oldie UK show that my whole family used to watch --

don't remember if it's been mentioned in this thread yet:

Are You Being Served?

We still use the line: Don't worry, they'll ride up with wear!

You must watch Kath and Kim!!! It's great...

Wiki gives a really good run down of the show...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kath_&_Kim

I could even *cough*burnacopyofthetelemovieforyouifyouwanttowatchit*cough*

Look it up on Youtube... I'd get you a clip, but I'm on dial up and it takes forever to load...

Are You Being Served!!!

With Mrs Slocombe talking about her pussy! :lmfao::das:

That was a bloody awesome show...

An Aussie accent isn't hard to understand (says the Aussie)... though apparently we speak fast, so that might make it hard to understand us...

I found this on Wiki... it's about Are You Being Served?...

The series has become very popular in the United States on PBS stations and on BBC America, as well as in many Commonwealth nations around the world. A U.S. adaptation pilot episode called Beane's of Boston aired on 5 May 1979 on CBS, but it didn't make it to a full series. An Australian version, also called Are You Being Served?, ran for sixteen episodes from 1980 to 1981 and starred John Inman as Mr Humphries.

Esp the bold bit.. :naughty:

For some reason the Aussie series sort of seems familiar to me, but not. It's a little before my time anyway...

Not sure how much this is relevent, but my favorite british comedian/actor is and will always be Peter Sellers. Yesterday i had a chance to watch a long documentery on his life and career, like a lot of talented ppl he had a very complex personality but an unbelivable talent for portraying characters.:thumb_yello:
