The Australian Thread: Part Thirteen

Recommended Posts

But there's something appealing about a man with his hands tied behind his back.

Cntrl frk. :bleh:

Are you saying there was a seperate thread entitled that?

Yes, in which they said "goodbye" to the MFC and its dramas after which they were told that if they wanted to leave then they'd help them along and ban them - the banning was later said to be done because of 'a pattern of behaviour' that they'd had for a while.

But this is all messy stuff - it's not to be glossed over and forgotten but it's best to not hold on to old grudges.

On a completely different note, I saw a link you posted in a thread about myspace profile trackers... do they work?

Just found the thread, just read the thread, just had the exact same heart pounding/stomach churning sensations I was having when the first after party reports started coming back in just before I lost computer access, and just had the exact same "HOLY ****!!" response. Thanks for bringing me up to speed, I won't mention it again.

Some more information:

Kata, Yoppapop and Cynthia were banned after the infamous Feb. 28th afterparty. The party itself was a bit of a disaster, and the resulting tension spilled from real life onto MFC. There was quite a negative vibe for a few days, and it was during that time the girls were banned. The "drama goodbye" thread was part of it, but it also had to do with some things that were said via PM. For the record, all were only banned for one week.

However, the whole thing was a good learning experience for the mod team, and as a result we've put better practices into place, and clarified how we do things with a written forum guideline (linked off the FAQs if anyone has missed it).

You can see clearly from these guidelines that Oakie Doke and/or Greta certainly won't be banned for questioning why a thread was closed. Now, if either of them started, say, viciously attacking other members via PM or something, that would be a different story. But we most certainly won't ban someone for simply questioning something around here. That would indeed be ridiculous.

And, in case anyone is curious, PinkUnicorn123 did indeed ask us to ban her this time around due to some personal issues in her life, and her desire to take a break from the forum as a result. At first we were reluctant - again, we don't like banning, so why would we do it upon request? - but then after reconsidering it, it seemed like the best idea. And she's been told that if her circumstances change, she's welcome to ask that the ban be lifted. She is in contact with at least two mods on MSN, and via the MFC MySpace, so that's certainly an option for her if she's so inclined.

Any other questions, just ask. It creates a bad vibe around here if things are kept all secret-like. :thumb_yello:

If Danershkas still sturking, I read that Chris Martin likens this album to U2's Unforgettable Fire.. He likes to compare himself to Bono often :lol3:

And, yep, I'm listening now..

I had wondered where she disappeared to. Thanks for explaining.

Thanks Mana, that clarified things for me as well :cheerful_h4h:

Of course I'm sturking, I learn from my elders you know *slap*

My mum says Coldplay is a rip-off of U2 :roftl:

I say Coldplay is an emulation of U2.

And I have decided that Chris Martin is you me as Bono is to you. :wub2:

Although without the same level of obsession. Yet.

Ah!! Jared's a plumber working at the school... I just presumed he was one of the other teachers...

And I saw what you wrote... You didn't just agree, it was a considered agreeance. Meaning, you thought about it and didn't just go all lemming on us.

Yeah, he's just a plumber... who was not working today :sneaky2:

I guess you're right... I'm not really into the whole lemming thing... the game was addictive though...

LOL - a group stalk? Well count me in!!! Yeah, when is Mr Penniman coming back to AUS??? I was all prepared for an AUS tour for the V Festivals, but it was not to be.

Yep, group stalk... The Mikamites Dream Tour of Oz... :tears:

I was all up for it too... but instead I got to go to Bundanoon!

I wonder if a group stalk/The Mikamite Dream Tour of Oz will happen if Mika tours early next year since a bunch of Mikamites will be going overseas for New Year's (therefore blowing a large amount of money) and I may or may not be moving (hence money for a bond, furniture, etc). If so it might be just Melb and Syd Mikamite gatherings? Or a Perth one too if the WA-ians won't be flying over (if he performs there that is as many artists do just the East Coast).

It's called saving up money in 3 different places... I'm saving for O/S, a car, and Dream Tour...

It's great having a load of accounts...

I hope he comes before the end of the year cause my plan is to move to London in January... well I could always pretend I have visa problems and delay the move (or just come back for the concerts).

We could do a "fanatics" version of the Ashes tour, but for the Mika concerts! A tour of duty around AUS. I'll arrange the tour t-shirt!

Got it planned... we started (okay, I) started a list...

We have around 50 t-shirt suggestions already. (We weren't eager.... much.) But after waiting for 12 months I think our interest (or at least mine) in the tour is starting to wane. I think I'd be glad with just a Melbourne gig (or maybe a Sydney one too, depending on how fangurly I feel at the time).

Try over 70... but a lot can't be used cause of copyright issues... and of course it's the really clever ones... and the ones which say Mika...

I still wanna go for the tour, but more to see everyone...

I would love it if Mika came to Perth, but would still def try and get over to Syd or Mel for those shows. I have been trying (unsuccessfully!) to put some money away to pay for airfares, accom, etc. If things keep going the way they have been and I stop spending I will end up with enough to see him in London (okay, I only have about $250 so far so I won't get my hopes up just yet!)

Jols, we're crashing at your place if he goes to Perth!

Think positive!

He's probably just recovering from the ridiculous questions the Australian media asked him last time he was here.

Or stupid comments... Like "You sound like James Blunt." :sneaky2:

Good point. Crap, I can't even decide when would be best. Like ... June/July holidays really...

I would be pushing it to afford January/February...

I'd be pushing it to afford any time

I think a lot of people would be...

But seeing as he hasn't announced any tour dates, it means we have plenty of time to get money together...

What would you do...if that were Bono and not Mika?

Booking the first flight over to Ireland?

I wanna know what she would do... to Mika if he really did have his arms tied behind his back?

Book the first flight over to London?

Geez... need to see boy... sexual frustration is not good...

Oh, listen, I was wondering if someone can help me with some scuttlebut...

Perhaps with a pm or something...

What happened way back in March, when I was off the forum, with people being banned? Who was it and why did it happen?

This whole thread closing thing has brought it up again in my brain and I remembered I never got around to asking earlier... and I've kind of gotten the impression that i shouldn't be asking and that it's one of those unpleasant periods in recent MFC history that should just be glossed over and forgotten...

Hmmmm... very unpleasant... not something I'd like to be talking about just yet...

Yes there was a thread started called "Goodbye Drama" where (from memory) they were posting that they were going to leave rather than put up with what was going on. And one of the Mods wrote that they'd help them with that. And then they were banned.

I might be wrong on the finer details. Someone will correct me.

But, I don't think there's anything to worry about now. I don't think OD or Petra etc will get banned for questioning why a thread was closed. It would be stupid if they did.

Banning, IMO, needs to only be done as a last resort. Same goes for closing threads.

It's interpreted as a very final "We don't do that here" statement.

I very much doubt they would be...

Tool.

What can I say, I like to go where the cool kids hang out.

Now, what's this about Bono?

We're rebels... without a cause...

In here, we're worshipping Bono's crotch...

I made the mistake of suggesting that the Aussies go watch U23D at IMAX. Now they're all born-again Bono/U2 fanatics...

Yep, it's all your fault... I didn't want to go but everyone else wanted to...

We love you...... two??
