My hilarious friend was telling us today about this recurring dream she only stopped having this year, after having it for roughly 20 years since she was in college. It's almost the end of her last year and she's about to graduate when she suddenly realises there was a statistics unit that was compulsory for her course, and she didn't do it so she can't graduate OK, ok, I've read your blog now! I used to dream that there was a unit I hadn't been attending and that I hadn't done the assignment and I wasn't going to be allowed to graduate, but it didn't start until about 7 years after I graduated. Another random story about her: We are just sitting there today doing our dissection and all of a sudden she sings, really quite loudly, and in a completely ridiculous low voice "WON'T YOU GUIDE MY SLEIGH TONIGHT?" and I laugh, and then she looks at me with this ":jawdrop:" face and then bursts out laughing, and then I burst out laughing more. And then we are basically both crying and unable to breathe and she is trying to breathe enough to be able to tell me that I did NOT hear that. And that she did NOT just say that out loud. The rest of our group didn't hear, and they didn't even look twice at us, as we rolled around with tears streaming down our faces. I thought she was studying teaching? She's studying Arts/Education and she has an exam on that topic because one of her units is on the sociology of sexuality. Her other exam essay is on representation of LGBT people for which she's going to discuss the under- and mis-representation of bisexuals. Anyway Bec'll be home in half an hour she can correct me if I'm wrong. I'm sure you could bullsh!t your way through the prostitution stuff... I could throw in the 'exploited vs. exploiting' question, the balance of power, the effect on societal attitudes to women (especially on the matters of violence and objectification) and some third-wave feminist arguments... Yep, thats the topic the prostitution stuff fits in She's studying Arts/Education and she has an exam on that topic because one of her units is on the sociology of sexuality. And we have a winner *points to Scut* Arts/Education, minor in sociology (meaning I pick whichever topics I think interesting and the sociology of sexuality is verra verra interesting) major in philosophy. Sociology of sexuality is the last of my minor requirements, so next year I'm full education and philosophy. And Scut, its all about the bolded stuff What we were told is that the topic will be on gender and power issues associated with Pornography/pr0n, mainly to deal with oppression (and whether its exploitive or not), with the ability to speak of either topic or both.
