Soaring Simpson
i hear " cruel blue cross " I'm hearing "cru- el crush" So- is the video gonna show the birds helping Mika* to get dressed, as in Grease or Cinderella? *Or MIka doll- but that wouldn't be half as much fun! lovempls
I'm hearing "cru- el crush" Cross makes the most sense because "cross to bear" is a well-known phrase. It's cruel cross that I have to bear. It just makes sense.

It makes the most obvious sense- but crush also makes sense, and... that's what I'm hearing
katydid1994
I’m a wind-up toy in an up down world If you leave me all alone, I’ll make a mess for sure I’ve a heart of gold and the smartest eyes Leave me in the dark, you’ll never hear me cry More than an illustration Points of articulation Come to life on a brass spring Such a wonderful plaything It’s a cru...el cross that I have to bear Come a little closer I’m going to pull your hair More than just a toy in a patch-blue suit Hold me in your arms I’m just a boy like you But your mama thought there was somethin’ wrong Didn’t want you sleeping with a boy too long It’s a serious thing in a grown-up world Maybe you’d be better with a Barbie girl You knew that I adored ya But you left me in Georgia Toys are not sentimental How could I be for rental? She’s the meanest hag that has ever been Pulled out my insides with an old safety pin I’m the sorest sight, now I feel like trash Clothes are made of rags and they don’t even match So she dressed me up as the man she loved Then threw me in a box when she had had enough Now the light of day I no longer see She stuck her voodoo pins where my eyes used to be Accidentally tragic Victim of her black magic Had a boy once who loved me Now he's so afraid of me On a long lost day when you're grey and old You'll be there remembering your old toy boy When your oldest son is what you want to be Tell him the story of a boy like me

lily
Why would Toy Boy pull his boy's hair? He loves him. With the lyrics about the little girls pulling his hair, I think of it like... "Oh, all the little girls think Im so cute and they want to play with me, but I only want to be with my boy." And he loves the boy who owns him. IN A LITERAL SENSE..... Toy Boy wants nothing to do with all those "girls" I think so too, that makes more sense, but I'll have to go back and listen to it again! Haha, I like this line better though, haha, it makes me smile!! : ))
sparkly1
What that means to me is that he is a deeply empathic person, and really does receive what other people 'tell' him, and can enter into their feelings. That skill is so rare... He's not just doing the standard 'love and lust and lost', he's seeing the wholeness of people... Superbly put, I have been thinking that for ages about him, but you put it in much better words than I could have I am quite the same myself so that is kinda how I can tell,I expect you are too. only it makes me cry waaay too easily at things that I shouldn't lol)

AnnaMariaPetra
yes, he uses a lot of 'inflections' / melismas ( I think the latter is the correct word) in this song. Typical of baroque singing but you can also find it in some classical pieces, like Mozart's Magic Flute .. (don't ask me why I keep hearing this in my head - it drives me mad, too ) Funny you mention Mozart. I keep thinking Mozart all the time while I listen to ToyBoy. I think it's because the way Mika sings this song. And the music ofcourse. But I thought mentioning Mozart would be too high fetched, if you know what I mean... silver
I've taken a while to get to listen to this song - I certainly think it is the best of the new songs he performed. The lyrics are multi-layered and you can read a lot into them - I can't think of another song he has written which is so consistently ambiguous. But I am worried it is going to be overproduced on the album, and that the arrangement will detract from the words.

Listen from 0:48 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ElZcW4olcyA The Magic Flute has been my favourite for ages, no wonder I got so attached to the song Toy Boy immediately! This is my fav: And this one is good too: Could have been Mika! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IzstMw2ZB30&feature=related Just kidding(about the last one) I've taken a while to get to listen to this song - I certainly think it is the best of the new songs he performed. But he said, "it's all about the words" Do you mean the words can be drowned out by the (over)fancy music?

I have big expectations for this song, I think it can be as big as Grace Kelly! But on the other hand I don't know squat about the music industry, maybe I’m mislead with my own love for it to think it’s so good!

suzie
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IzstMw2ZB30&feature=related I have never heard a boy sing Queen of the Night... Sounds a bit absurd to me... Or perhaps I'm a bit conservative in that respect.. Of the new songs we have heard so far, this is the only one that has gone straight to my brain - but I don't think it would ever be released as a single.
