Mika: 'We Are Golden'

Mika splits opinion like asking a party of eight-year-olds whether they'd like ice cream or custard with their apple pie. To his fans, he's a charming performer, a gifted tunesmith and a gleefully uninhibited singer. To his detractors, he's only slightly less irritating than pubic lice.

'We Are Golden', the lead single from his upcoming second album, is unlikely to change anyone's mind. It sounds like Jim Steinman doing High School Musical and features two varieties of choir - gospel and kiddie, in case you were wondering. Mika, meanwhile, flits in and out of falsetto whenever he fancies. What do we think? Well, the big old chorus makes his foibles worth putting up with... as long as we don't have to watch the video too.

Don't think I'll ever think of pubic lice in the same way again!!! LOL!!!

Well he seems to like the song, but not the video!

Oh well, guess he doesn't have an inner child!

Sad for him.

Who is this guy anyway :sneaky2:

Actually I find that still Marmite thing kind of comforting too. It makes me (and I guess all of us) love him even more :biggrin2:

Yeah...it kind of makes us smug in the knowledge that those who loathe him are just really misguided and missing out on something amazing :biggrin2:.

And it really is true what Mika once said..there is nothing worse in the music industry than everyone thinking you are 'just ok'. It is creative death.

True true :thumb_yello:

I actually like some of the reviews out there and how they are basing it on WAG , Q magazine review is by far the best and so spot on :thumb_yello:

Simple put , its gonna be massive and launch him into another sphere:biggrin2:

Hmmm....The thing is, even if I hvae a natural tendency to defend Mika when people speak badly of him, I must agree on one thing: WAG is not that fantastic a song. In fact, out of what I have heard of the album, it's IMO the weakest track.

The more I hear new tracks from the album, the more I go back to my 'first impression' about WAG: it's alright, it's catchy, but it is not a great song. It DOES sound too 'High School Musicaly' to me, and it does seem to lack the substance that other songs in the album have.

I guess that it will be a case of wait and see, but I personally doubt that the single is going to get him great reviews. I bet you that the actual album is going to get him far better ones.

Really? You think that WAG is a weak track? Hmmm... That's personally how I feel about Rain. It is slowly growing on me, but I don't think it's a great song, and if it went missing off the album, I wouldn't miss it.

Well, I don't think that it's weak, or bad, just weaker than the rest, and that it doesn't have a lot of substance to it, so after a few listens it sort of fizzles out in my mind.

The others stay, and I find myself 'feeling' them a lot more.

I have always thought the same about Rain, the new version of Rain was slowly growing on me and then I heard that Pet Shop boys thing in the middle, I really don't like that bit and it has put me back to square one with Rain now. shocked:
