I know he doesn't like to swim with fish I don't think he is drowning in the song, he is thriving. Drowning is not simply being submerged in water (or love in this metaphor), it means to suffocate from it. Yes, but maybe he feels like the world's trying to make him stiff and feel like he can't handle life (blood red sky and the water) and the love that the person brings makes him feel alive and able to survive whatever comes.
