So I told Hunny Spousal Unit about this conversation. And I said, guess who started it? She said…

Does her name begin with C and end with J?

because here you are famous

because of the venus fly trap conversation

and the venus fly trap we named for you

and because we have a deep appreciation

for odd.

The End

Uh oh. I'm not sure we're ready for this...

So... female spotted hyenas have... drum roll please...

a penis!

Well it's actually a fake penis (also known as a mock penis or pseudopenis), in groups of hyenas the females are dominant. Yay girl power!

And this unusual organ they have is no small thing, it can be up to 7" long! They also have a large scent gland which can mimic male scent. It is used for mating but also protection. Females present their penis to other hyenas to warn them off and use the scent gland to mark their territory.

So I guess it's the females that always have the last hyena laugh! :lmfao:

If you mean polyamorous, then yes they are! Most ducks change there mate each season!

Wait, what? But aren't ducks meant to symbolise fidelity and consistency?

I've been lied to!

Seems I was thinking of the mandarin duck in Asian culture:

In traditional Chinese culture, mandarin ducks are believed to be lifelong couples, unlike other species of ducks. Hence they are regarded as a symbol of conjugal affection and fidelity, and are frequently featured in Chinese art.

A Chinese proverb for loving couples uses the mandarin duck as a metaphor: "Two mandarin ducks playing in water" (simplified Chinese: 鸳鸯戏水; traditional Chinese: 鴛鴦戲水; pinyin: yuānyāng xì shuǐ). A mandarin duck symbol is also used in Chinese weddings because in traditional Chinese lore, they symbolize wedded bliss and fidelity.

For Koreans, mandarin ducks represent peace, fidelity, and plentiful offspring. Similar to the Chinese, they believe that these ducks mate for life. For these reasons, pairs of wooden-carved mandarin ducks called wedding ducks are often given as wedding gifts and play a significant role in Korean marriage.[30]

Japanese culture

edit

Similarly, in Japanese the ducks are called oshidori (おしどり/オシドリ/鴛鴦) and are used in the phrase oshidori fūfu (おしどり夫婦, "a couple of lovebirds/happily married couple"). In addition, the Crown Prince wears the Sokutai decorated with a pattern featuring oshidori.[31]

So, I am a huge fan of the funny Buzzfeed lists. And today, this item came up.

8. "Since I was a teen, my family has used the word 'chicken' for everything from a swear replacer ('what the chicken!') to filling in for anything ('hand me that chicken, please' or 'go pick up your chicken'). I have sometimes used it around friends and the explanation is never sufficient enough for them."

What the cluck?!

Maybe we should start a trend where from now on all swear words are to be replaced with something chicken related!
